Silent Earth #1 - An Earthy Mixed Media Moody Painting
Silent Earth #1 - An Earthy Mixed Media Moody Painting
This painting is part of the |EARTH| Element Collection. With its rugged texture, it’s comforting and organic, centered and grounded, perfectly imperfect and richly rustic. A dark, moody and elegant take on the earth paintings with bold texture. This piece has a companion (as shown in the third image) which is sold separately.
Wabi Sabi is a traditional Japanese aesthetic and philosophy dedicated to the appreciation of the imperfection that comes with age and wear.
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted with precious metal powders. The breakage and repair are honored, as part of the history of the piece.
As deeply as I believe in these values, they are not always applicable, as in the case of our precious earth. The |EARTH| Collection incorporates a kintsugi aesthetic to serve as a beautiful reminder that our amazing planet needs our protection. I apply a kintsugi-style “repair” to the earth paintings as a reminder that now is the time to mend our precious environment, before it’s too late.
This original mixed media painting was created with earth pigment infused plaster, rain water, metal leaf, and mica shards. Original painting is signed by Jennifer Lorton.
With every sale, from the |EARTH| Element Collection, I will make a donation to The Nature Conservancy, an organization dedicated to protecting lands and waters on and in which all life depends.
